The Town of Montefalco

This summer we’ve found ourselves frequently enjoying the many tastes of Montefalco. Famous for its wines, particularly the robust Sagrantino, Montefalco is also renowned for its beautiful, traditional linens. As regular visitors to Tessitura Pardi’s linen shop in centro storico, this summer we ventured outside the walls to view the centuries old weaving process first hand. The impressive mill dates back to 1949 and for three generations Pardi has preserved the traditional local weaving techniques. Just a short drive from the town of Montefalco this excursion makes a wonderful day trip! Following an extensive tour of the mill, where all patterns are still set by hand, we had the opportunity to visit the Pardi shop offering a broad selection of luxurious curtains, table and bed linens. Our morning exploration was topped off with a delectable tasting lunch at the Pardi cantina, local dishes complemented with Pardi’s own Sagrantino wine.

And speaking of Sagrantino, just two weeks ago, we once again found ourselves in Montefalco – this time for the annual Sagrantino Wine Festival – Enologica. With over 30 cantinas participating we were able to taste fine Rosso and Sagrantino wines from many small regional producers. Meandering through the booths with our 6€ event glass in hand we paced ourselves with short breaks to taste the warmth of the Umbrian sun while contemplating another lesson learned…one afternoon is not enough to do justice to this four day event - next year we will plan several trips.
